Thailand Altcoin ETF Timeline 2026: When Will ETH and Solana Trade on the SET?

Thailand SEC is targeting altcoin ETFs in 2026 with multi-token baskets covering Ethereum, Solana, and XRP. Here is where the regulatory timeline stands and what Thai investors can realistically expect from SET-listed crypto products.
Thailand Altcoin ETF Timeline 2026: When Will ETH and Solana Trade on the SET?

Thailand’s crypto ETF story moved faster in 2026 than most observers expected. After finalising rules for Bitcoin spot ETFs, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) quickly signalled that altcoin ETFs — covering Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and multi-token basket products — were also in scope for 2026. Deputy SEC Secretary-General Jomkwan Kongsakul confirmed the expanded ambition publicly. The question is not whether these products are coming, but when and what they will actually look like for investors on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

Where the Bitcoin ETF Framework Stands

Thailand finalised its Bitcoin spot ETF regulatory framework in early 2026. The rules address custody (assets held by a regulated custodian), valuation methodology, and settlement procedures. Once listed on the SET, a Bitcoin ETF would trade like any other SET-listed ETF: through an existing Thai brokerage account, in Thai baht, under Thai securities law. No exchange account, no private key management, no seed phrase required. The investor experience is the same as buying TMOP or TDEX through your mobile banking app.

What the Altcoin ETF Push Covers

The SEC’s signals through mid-2026 point to three product categories under development:

  • Ethereum ETFs — The most straightforward extension. US spot ETH ETFs launched in 2024 and 2025, giving Thailand’s SEC a framework to reference. Custody and valuation rules carry across cleanly.
  • Solana ETFs — More complex given Solana’s proof-of-stake validation structure and the staking yield question. The US has been slower to approve Solana ETFs, but the SEC has indicated it is watching the global precedent.
  • Multi-token basket ETFs — The most ambitious product type: a single fund holding a defined basket of digital assets with specified weights and rebalancing rules. This is genuinely new territory for the SET.

Why the SET Listing Matters

A SET-listed crypto ETF changes the investor experience in two concrete ways. First, distribution: every Thai brokerage account holder can access it through the same interface used for stocks and bonds. Second, regulation: the product sits under Thai securities law, and any dispute goes through the SEC and SET’s existing investor protection framework. This is structurally different from buying crypto through Bitkub or Gulf Binance, where the legal framework is the Digital Asset Business Decree.

Risks and Open Questions

Multi-token ETFs introduce product design complexity. How are weights determined and by whom? How frequently are they rebalanced, and what triggers a change? What happens when a constituent asset — XRP, for example — faces regulatory challenges in another jurisdiction? These are not reasons to avoid the products, but questions the SEC needs to answer in the final framework. Tracking error and liquidity in the underlying altcoins are also real considerations for any ETF product manager sizing these funds.

What This Means for Thai Investors

The altcoin ETF roadmap matters for Thai retail investors who currently access crypto through exchange accounts but would prefer a regulated investment wrapper. SET-listed ETFs have clearer tax reporting paths: under Thailand’s revenue code, gains from SET-listed securities are treated differently from digital asset trading gains. For investors currently navigating the crypto capital gains exemption (in effect through 2029), SET ETF holdings may eventually offer a structurally simpler position — one that aligns better with how traditional financial advisors can include crypto exposure in a portfolio.

What to Watch

The SEC’s formal public consultation on altcoin ETF rules is the key signal. Once a consultation period opens, the listing timeline typically follows within 6-12 months. Ethereum’s price trajectory matters too: a sustained recovery above $2,000 would accelerate fund manager appetite for launching an ETH ETF in Thailand. Watch also for the first Bitcoin ETF to actually list on the SET — that first listing demonstrates the operational mechanics and sets the template for every altcoin product that follows.
