This applies regardless of transaction size\u2014there&#8217;s no minimum threshold in the Thai version, unlike some jurisdictions that exempt small transfers. The data must be stored and made available to regulators on request.<\/p>\n<p>The specific data fields required include: full name, account number or wallet address, and for higher-risk transactions, additional identification such as national ID or passport number. The transmitting exchange must send this data to the receiving exchange as part of the transaction process. Under the new rule, first-time withdrawals to an unrecognized wallet address will require proof of ownership. However, if you use a licensed Thai exchange on either end of a transfer\u2014Bitkub, Zipmex, or any other licensed platform\u2014the Travel Rule kicks in.<\/p>\n<p>The distinction between covered and uncovered transactions will matter to DeFi users and peer-to-peer traders. Purely on-chain transactions that don&#8217;t touch a licensed Thai exchange are technically outside the rule&#8217;s scope. But any on-ramp or off-ramp through a licensed platform brings the transaction into the regulatory framework. In practice, most Thai retail crypto users interact with licensed exchanges at some point in their workflow.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_This_Means_for_Thai_Crypto_Users\"><\/span>What This Means for Thai Crypto Users<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>For retail users, the practical impact is more onboarding paperwork, not blocked transactions. Exchanges will likely ask for additional KYC documentation for large external withdrawals, and some may require wallet-address verification before you can withdraw to an unfamiliar address. The February 2027 deadline gives platforms time to roll this out gradually. Expect your exchange to start sending notices about updated terms and verification requirements in Q4 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The most immediate change retail users will notice is likely an update to the withdrawal flow for external wallet addresses. Some exchanges will implement a whitelist system\u2014once you verify a wallet address once, future withdrawals to that address go through without additional steps. New addresses will trigger a verification process. The SEC is also running a public consultation on crypto ETF rules until September 20\u2014the regulatory buildout is moving fast.<\/p>\n<p>Thailand&#8217;s approach to crypto regulation has been more deliberate than many markets\u2014licensing exchanges early, building a framework for institutional products, and now implementing FATF standards. The Travel Rule is a significant piece of that framework. Exchanges that build robust compliance infrastructure now will be better positioned for institutional onboarding, which is the growth opportunity most Thai platforms are targeting for 2027 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>February 2027 sounds far away, but exchanges need to implement systems, train staff, and update user agreements well before the deadline.
