The banking sector posted better-than-expected Q1 earnings as net interest margins held up despite the BOT\u2019s rate pause. Global gold prices climbed sharply in H1, boosting SET-listed gold retailers and related names. Energy stocks caught a bid as Brent crude recovered from late-2025 lows. The rally was broad-based, not a one-sector story.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"SET_vs_ASEAN_Peers\"><\/span>SET vs ASEAN Peers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The 43% recovery looks impressive in isolation, but Thailand\u2019s index is not the cheapest in ASEAN by forward P\/E. Thailand carries political risk that most regional peers don\u2019t \u2014 that\u2019s always been the discount in the SET, and it hasn\u2019t disappeared. A hold is expected at 86.7% probability, but the language in the statement matters. If the Fed signals that cuts are possible later in 2026, global risk appetite improves and Thailand tends to benefit because of its export-heavy composition and foreign capital sensitivity.<\/p>\n<p>The baht at USD\/THB 33.60 helps exporters but hurts companies with dollar-denominated liabilities. Q2 earnings season, running through August, is where the H1 rally gets tested. Markets have already priced strong H1 growth. If Q2 matches, the sector holds its ground. Energy names like PTT benefit from higher Brent crude but carry Middle East risk. The BOI-backed tech and AI infrastructure plays are genuinely long-dated bets \u2014 the narrative is there, the earnings are still thin.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_This_Means_for_Thai_Investors\"><\/span>What This Means for Thai Investors<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At 1,635, the SET is not cheap enough to be an obvious buy after a 43% rally, but not stretched enough to be obviously dangerous. Systematic monthly investment in SET50 index funds or ETFs, rather than trying to time a single entry, is the more practical approach. If the market dips to 1,580\u20131,600 on Fed volatility, that becomes a more attractive level to add.<\/p>\n<p>Short-term traders should watch 1,650 as the key resistance level. Three failures at that level would suggest the market needs more time or better earnings to break through.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Q3_Outlook\"><\/span>The Q3 Outlook<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The most likely Q3 path is consolidation between 1,580 and 1,660 as the market digests H1 gains and waits for earnings data. A strong Q2 earnings season combined with a clean Fed hold could push SET above 1,650 and toward 1,700 by September. Disappointing bank earnings or a hawkish Fed surprise would send it back toward 1,580.
